Chapter 5 Response

I had been aware of the tools and things to take note of through the use of the camera but haven't always put that knowledge to use or experiments with it. I have used a target camera before that follows the subject of the animation, but I usually rely on the camera angles to give me interesting shots of what I'm animating. There was one animation where I had done a squash and stretch of a ball bouncing in 3d the path of the ball from the impact to the highest arc back to the next impact was a feat to have figured out the math for. Unfortunately I lost the animation somewhere along the way.
In regards to the other movement techniques covered in the chapter I think I should probably start taking them into consideration in order to make my animations more dynamic.

Chapter 4 Response

I wasn't really interested by the section about signage but the sections about just about everything else was interesting. I didn't really know the differences and limitations of different types of screens, the only thing that I knew was that if you play games on plasmas that they tend to burn the image into the screen. The sizing formats between LED and LCD I was intrigued by what their initials actually stood for which made their differences in capabilities much more apparent. Immersive environments always fascinated me especially the interactive ones. I used to know the name of an artist that had come up with an interactive program that projects images onto a surface and when a person interrupts the projection it interacts and things moves in accordance with them. I wish I remembered, I would post a link to it if I could.
Animated exteriors are extremely entertaining, I can't say that I've seen one in person but the idea fascinates me and to have a grid system of monitors that line up to make a significantly larger screen to work with.

Chapter 3 Response

I didn't realize that animating for the web was so difficult, though I had never tried it myself so that would probably explain why. I know how to animate and post to the web but I don't, I have no real reason why but I'm thinking that I might start doing it in order to get my name out there and such.

When I took Web Authoring I discovered how hard it was to come up with a functioning design that you could actually make especially for a first time designer. So when they emphasize the the need for a good navigation system I understand completely. And when they go on to talk about splash pages, I can't say that I've heard of them but I had been informed by my web authoring teacher that it's generally a bad idea to add animations to a webpage due to the fact that it dramatically slows down the speed of the site being loaded and most people with the fast paced internet do not want to wait. When he said that it was rather irritating since i had wanted to do that for my final project, make a webpage were I had all my animations all set and ready to play; a portfolio page.

Chapter 2 Response

This chapter was relatively informative. I paid attention mostly to the subtitles and their basic descriptions. I didn't realize how many different things would be listed under network Branding:

  1. Station ids
  2. Show Openers
  3. Show packages
  4. Interstitials
  5. Bumpers
  6. Lower Thirds
  7. Mortises
  8. Lineups and Upfronts
  9. Tags
  10. Network Packages
  11. Promotional campaigns
The only one that I actually knew the technical term for were the Station Ids and Promotional Campaigns, the others I had no idea.

I looked into the music videos that were mentioned out of curiousity they were beautiful.

Chapter 1 Response

I honestly found this chapter to be rather boring. It was hard for me to focus on since I wasn't really interested in the details of who did what when and how they were accredited etc. I am aware of optical devices that were created such as zoetrobes, a well as a magnetic run illusion on a wheel that is 3 dimensional usually done as carousels. Most of the movies mentioned in the text I've never seen and have no wish to see.
Though this disinterest in the chapter probably stems from my dislike of history almost no matter what it is.
